Why two coats

Paint · 3 min read

Paint brushes, roller, and trays for a two-coat job

One coat hides in a dim room. Turn on a lamp, or wait for west light, and you’ll see lap marks, flashing, and the old color in the corners.

Two coats is how you get even sheen and a film thick enough to wash. It’s also how the labeled coverage numbers were measured.

When one coat is honest

Same color, same sheen, walls already in good shape, and you’re only refreshing. Even then, cut-in lines often need a second pass.

A deep color over white, or white over a dark red, is not a one-coat job. Don’t fight the physics. Prime or plan on three.

Marquee and “one-coat” claims

Premium paints cover better. They still need a full film. We price two coats as the default because that’s the job you can live with.
